My junior and senior year of high school (2016-2018) I took the opportunity to co-enroll in tech school to take welding courses. Every other day I would go to tech school and just learn to weld. We learned the full spectrum, oxy acetylene, stick, flux core, MIG, TIG, I even picked up some stick and wire fed 3G certifications. It was a great experience as a high schooler and skill I will long hold on to. All these images are from years ago.
I spent the large part of my second year at tech school focusing on TIG projects (because TIG is cool). We mostly welded on mild steel, but occasionally we would get some aluminum and stainless to practice on. Below are some projects that I worked on during those high school days.
Dead blow Thor's Hammer. Filled this up with shot and welded it shut. One of the auto body students helped me polish it to a mirror finish.Â
I really liked making these shapes, it was good TIG practice. Mild steel.
Try to ignore that bit of porosity front and center

I also got a lot of time on the MIG. Some of the bigger projects I worked on was building trailers.

I think I was proud of this because it was an overhead weld
I even won a state competition!
We had a lot of freedom in the shop. Like too much sometimes, but many fun projects came out of it.
The tall bike. I think we actually made this even taller at one point.
The classic "weld a chair to a differential and see how fast you can spin your buddies in circles" project.
